In response to K. Zunkles (wink) comment...
"A common thread among several of your more recent posts: the role of fashion in the public consciousness. What are your thoughts on this in light of Palin's remarks disparaging the $150,000 wardrobe and proclaiming a return to her "real" (i.e., Walmart Mom) clothes? Just curious."
A friend of mine over at The Frisky put together a brilliant page showing how to get the same looks for less at Walmart, heres a peak.
I guess this could fall in the same category as -do what i say not as i do?
Michelle Obama has worn some pricey outfits but she's mixed it up with H&M, and just last night J.Crew on Leno. I think all through out this campaign she knew that women, especially, would be looking at what she was wearing (duh) and she didn't want to seem out of touch. The opposite was happening over at the McCain camp, I think they wanted to have her appeal to the fussy conservatives that idolize Cindy. It backfired on them though, when all of a sudden it became about Joe the god damn plumber. There's really no excuse for spending like this, none of the candidates suits or grooming cost this much and I'm not sexist for calling her out for poor judgment, it would be sexist for me not to.
To ignore the impression fashion can make is well...ignorant. This price tab is going to haunt her, just like those unfortunate boots.
