How could we not? Here's our 2008 Style and Substance Awards for fashion technology:
- Best online retail experience - Net-a-Porter They know their customer, they have a sophisticated site that gives styling advice and they have super quick, smart customer service. And don't forget the plain brown bags for recession guiltless shopping!
- Best fashion innovation - Gilt One of the very few approaches that got us to spend money in the last few months. Christopher bought two blouses, and Kelley a pair of shoes.
- Best gossip site - What Would Tyler Durden Do A bit heavy on the sexy pics, but really he says what everyone else wants to say.
- Best online fashion mag - Page Six Magazine (obviously) with ZooZoom as runner up. Zoo Zoom has been an online mag for a while but they seem even more relevant this year. Beautiful editorials without a lot of text.
- Best fashion site revamp - J Crew Truthfully J.Crew is peddling the same old cashmere sweaters, but Mickey Drexler restyled the site and the catalog to make it fresh, new and exciting - smart branding.
- Best new non-nerdy app - Flock Coolest browser around once you get used to all the whistles and bells.
- Best new online girl-tool - Zotero Easiest way to keep track of anything you want on the web. Think of it as a cute, gay assistant who adores you.
- Best new online visual experience - CoolIris Makes you feel like you really are living in the 21st Century.
- Overall 2008 Style and Substance award - Michele Obama This may seem like an obvious choice but you have to give the gal credit. It's tough to be attractive, feminine, smart, tough, motherly...she seems to pull it off while mixing up low-end designers and young up-and-comers. How exciting that we have 4 more years of her outfits!
