Did you know I'm also a Beauty Editor? At the magazine we all wear many hats so I take control of both the beauty and fashion. They do go hand in hand so it's not so hard to call out the trends however I've only been a beauty editor a short time and already I've learned a lot. I thought I'd share my findings with you, because there was nothing of interest to mock today.
#1. There is nothing you can do about cellulite. Nothing works, save your money. Your best best is to get massages to relax the area or diffuse the water weight that settles in the cellulite area. But you're totally shit out of luck so either embrace it or cover it up, in a chic manner of course.
#2. Certain nail polish colors are inappropriate for working women, one of them is "neon anything" the other is "I could care less brown."
#3. Chanel beauty products are really pretty on the outside but totally worthless on the inside. Stick with their lipsticks, eyeshadow and nail polish. Everything else is over priced soap.
#4. Facials work. I used to never get facials because they were so pricey and seemed really indulgent, since I've started testing out new spas I really notice an improvement in the strength of my skin, the glow and the reduction of break outs (which I used to get all the time, which is crap because I dealt with some serious acne in high school-WHEN DOES IT END???) Even if you go twice a year it will help so skip the champagne brunch with the ladies one month and treat your skin to a little love.
#5.Get a blow out for special events. You know that feeling you get when you walk out of a salon and you feel like a million bucks cause your hair is shiny and bouncy? Don't you want to feel that way before an event where there will be a camera to document? There is no way on hell you can blow dry your hair the way the experts do. You don't have four bendy arms and eyes behind your head. If you have time to go to a salon then by all means go they're usually around $30. If not see if you can sweet talk your hair dresser to do a house call for $50 and a cocktail.
#6.Pay attention to your eyebrows. They frame your face. They're very important. They can also make your eyes look bigger if done properly. I would consult a professional-please don't color them in on your own unless a professional has shown you how to do it. I'm passionate about this. I also think your eyebrows do not have to match your hair color, same shade fine, but a least a shade darker is better.
#7.Liquid liner is very hard to do and rarely ever looks right unless you're Sophia Loren.
#8.If you live in a hot city and sweat a lot like I do, I highly suggest these mint body wipes from Whole Foods (can't find an image or link-sorry) for your arms, face and neck. They take off the salty grossness and leave you tingly and fresh smelling. Also great for travel.
#9.Invest in a dry shampoo. We wash our hair way too much. Hair should be treated like silk, its fine and breakable and can damage easily even from combing out wet hair. If you can take a shower but not wash your hair thats best but you will most likely have oily hair so thats when the dry shampoo comes in. Its essentially like baby powder for your hair, it absorbs the oil giving your heir a lift. A lot of people are making them now but heres one I recommend.
#10. Massages can make you sick. If you don't get them regularly, which most women don't, you can get really sick after that first intense massage. All the toxins are being released from your body so you find that even with tons of water you still might feel woozy and feverish. I only say this to either encourage you to get more massages-which you deserve even if its a ten minute chair one at the nail salon, or to avoid getting a massage before any sort of an important event.
Thanks Kelley, I was JUST thinking about buying some Chanel moisturizer... I'm going to have to do more research. I'm so tired of the one I'm using now. Xoxo.
